We dubbed it Angry Avengers lol!! Anyway I had to find a way to turn these two pictures into a cake….</span><br />
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #073763; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P1L0GjZYniY/UEPlvFsmbbI/AAAAAAAAALs/O-jQhlRMP28/s1600/Angry-Avenger-Birds2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #073763; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="244" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-P1L0GjZYniY/UEPlvFsmbbI/AAAAAAAAALs/O-jQhlRMP28/s320/Angry-Avenger-Birds2.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #073763; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #073763; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SDmxzQfVtWI/UEPmEY59DcI/AAAAAAAAAL0/i5DOXneYANA/s1600/SpiderBird.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #073763; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SDmxzQfVtWI/UEPmEY59DcI/AAAAAAAAAL0/i5DOXneYANA/s1600/SpiderBird.png" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #073763; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I decided that I was going to make the characters out of rice crispy treats and cover them in fondant. I went to work….</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #073763; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1o030ofiHl4/UEPmTJOvfGI/AAAAAAAAAL8/qcs9XxACTtY/s1600/AngAvSpChar.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #073763; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="239" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-1o030ofiHl4/UEPmTJOvfGI/AAAAAAAAAL8/qcs9XxACTtY/s320/AngAvSpChar.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #073763; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #073763; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I made these a week in advance to give them enough time to set and be dry enough to handle without harming them.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #073763; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #073763; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Next I planned their cake. I decided to do a patriotic red, white and blue cake. Can’t have a labor day birthday and NOT have a patriotic cake!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #073763; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here is the finished cake….</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-U9L6jnPw-Rg/UEPnBT-1DPI/AAAAAAAAAME/uwclEv__-OM/s1600/IMG_1921.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #073763; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-U9L6jnPw-Rg/UEPnBT-1DPI/AAAAAAAAAME/uwclEv__-OM/s320/IMG_1921.jpg" width="239" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #073763; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Bottom tier is a chocolate mousse cake covered in red fondant, blue stripes and white stars.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #073763; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Middle tier is a white almond sour cream (WASC) cake covered in white fondant with red stripes and blue stars.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #073763; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The top tier is a banana cake covered in blue fondant with white stripes and red stars.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #073763; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have to send a shout out to 2 people. First I’d like to thank the best cake class teacher EVER, Mrs. Phyllis Farrell. I took all 4 of the Wilton Cake Decorating Courses and she was my instructor for all the classes. Without this AWESOME lady, I would NOT have been able to create such an AMAZING cake for my boys. If you have a Facebook page, stop on over to her page <a href="http://www.facebook.com/PhyllissCustomCakes">www.facebook.com/PhyllissCustomCakes</a> to check out her BEAUTIFUL cakes and don’t forget to “Like” it!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #073763; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Next up, the person that I got the recipes from also. Her name is Edna De La Cruz and she is a professional master baker and she does some of the most amazing cakes I have ever laid eyes on. She has a website <a href="http://www.designmeacake.com/">www.designmeacake.com</a> and you can find many great recipes and tutorials there.</span></div>

I hosted a tasting yesterday for them and prepared the three flavors they requested as well as a twist or two on the regular ol icings.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">First I made them a chocolate cupcake topped with a chocolate, vanilla, maple icing, the second one I made them was a VERY vanilla cupcake pared with a vanilla bean and maple buttercream icing. The third and now my personal favorite one was an apple pie cupcake. This was a cinnamon cupcake that was hollowed out and filled with homemade apple pie filling topped with a caramel swiss buttercreme and caramel sauce.</span><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WL79-tnhq_g/T7Ax03bVT8I/AAAAAAAAAK0/4rWgt8fQgUk/s1600/ccs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" dba="true" height="239" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WL79-tnhq_g/T7Ax03bVT8I/AAAAAAAAAK0/4rWgt8fQgUk/s320/ccs.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Yes I know some of these cupcakes don't match what was mentioned above but they are the flavors, I just mixed and matched the flavor cupcakes to other icings to give my friends some other flavor options as well as to show them that the icings will work well with different cupcakes.</span></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="color: #674ea7; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Isn't that the most beautiful cupcake you have ever seen?</span></div>CakeChichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14348031615223135867noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-990349844073657851.post-18427887404987927382012-04-29T16:20:00.003-04:002012-04-29T16:20:35.242-04:00Catch up….Ok to catch you guys up on what I have worked on since Sept…here goes.<br />

<br />
First my son’s celebrated their 7th in September and then almost immediately after that my husband’s health took a turn for the worse and he went down hill quite rapidly and on November 9th at 8:20am he lost his battle with renal cell cancer. Not much in the way of cakes for me since that time. I did manage to do a few which I will post pics of a little later but today I wanted to share a really cool and easy craft idea I found on youtube. It’s a tutorial on how to make roses out of coffee filters and even though it looks very complicated once you get the hang of it…they get easier and easier to make. Breaking it down it’s folding, cutting and hot gluing to make the flowers. So let me start by posting the link to the tutorial I found online and I can not take credit for this one. I will give a shout out to the wonderful woman (I think her name is Emmy) who took the time to make the tutorial for us to allow us to make these beautiful roses….THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR SHARING!!!!!<br />

<br />
YOU MAY HAVE TO COPY AND PASTE THIS ADDRESS IN YOUR BROWSER because I can’t figure out how to add a link…my apologies.<br />
<br />
Now I made the roses today and it took about 2 hours for my first bouquet. The first rose took up most of the time for me because I was following the tutorial and I kept stopping and starting as I went along. Here is the first rose I did….<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--vYMdstkj9g/T52c7dTTC6I/AAAAAAAAAJI/0T9RyB-l2rw/s1600/coffeefilterrose.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/--vYMdstkj9g/T52c7dTTC6I/AAAAAAAAAJI/0T9RyB-l2rw/s320/coffeefilterrose.jpg" width="239" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Once I got the hang of it…it got easier and easier for me and if I can do these, trust me…you can too!! This is my finished product….<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This is a picture of our inspiration cake.....<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This is the replicated cake.....</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Also couldn't find the pearls for around the edges, so I just piped a border. Like with ALL firsts, a few mistakes and imperfections are visible but next time it will be better. :-)<br />

So I took the one item I could splurge on and went crazy. I made them a cake and for the first time EVER I used fondant to cover it. I have wanted to work with it before but was never brave enough until now. I did the cake in the school colors.</span><br />

She wanted a vanilla cake with buttercream frosting and and burgundy trim. This is what I came up with for her.....<br />

She wanted to give cupcakes to her children clients that she so lovingly works with. I did a variety of cupcakes for her and she was more than thrilled with her cupcakes. Here is what I came up with for my dear friend.....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8NHxZdMVQlY/TdK59jjuvuI/AAAAAAAAAEA/6LbWPAvKR2I/s1600/0418111529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240px" j8="true" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-8NHxZdMVQlY/TdK59jjuvuI/AAAAAAAAAEA/6LbWPAvKR2I/s320/0418111529.jpg" width="320px" /></a></div><br />

I have seen these done and I have no idea why it always looked like so much work to me but I tried one tonight after my niece Katie texted me from a party she was at and they were making ice cream scoop cupcakes. This is my version of pistachio ice cream....<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s9EsoeKfcus/TdB4CIxVgeI/AAAAAAAAAD8/3NlC0v_8agc/s1600/DSC_0406.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-s9EsoeKfcus/TdB4CIxVgeI/AAAAAAAAAD8/3NlC0v_8agc/s320/DSC_0406.JPG" width="283" /></a></div><br />
These are a great idea for a kids party and can even be baked right in ice cream cones. The Step Mother to be ordered them in the bridal party colors. She supplied some of the candies, the molds to make more chocolates and the boxes that they will be displayed in. They will be given away as shower favors.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FqluKY9zEs4/Tc8Iks34QWI/AAAAAAAAAD0/7N5hSQekNKc/s1600/DSC_0399.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FqluKY9zEs4/Tc8Iks34QWI/AAAAAAAAAD0/7N5hSQekNKc/s320/DSC_0399.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Here are the beautiful boxes that the client provided. It was a bit of work to individually box them but now my client doesn't have to worry about ruining the frosting to box them herself. I did it for her.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rn6t5ooYGZU/Tc8IxG8jN5I/AAAAAAAAAD4/xHkhwFyIisc/s1600/DSC_0403.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-rn6t5ooYGZU/Tc8IxG8jN5I/AAAAAAAAAD4/xHkhwFyIisc/s320/DSC_0403.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>Best wishes to the Bride and Groom!CakeChichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14348031615223135867noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-990349844073657851.post-57782646489232806742011-05-14T18:52:00.001-04:002011-05-16T09:12:36.285-04:00Baby Shower CakeAnother opportunity to perfect the baby carriage cake!! A teacher at school saw the cake I did for my son's teacher's staff baby shower and fell completely in love with the cake and ordered it for her sis-i-l's baby shower. I was thrilled to have another opportunity to make the cake because I love working on this cake cause it is just so much fun to do. However, I was a bit disappointed that I had to do it in blue once again!! I may never get the opportunity to make it in pink!! Oh well, being the Mother of twin boys, I am partial to blue anyway! LOL<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-debIVgml_Uc/Tc8GzVMNvYI/AAAAAAAAADo/VpuWeafkUx8/s1600/DSC_0388.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-debIVgml_Uc/Tc8GzVMNvYI/AAAAAAAAADo/VpuWeafkUx8/s320/DSC_0388.JPG" width="212" /></a></div><br />
So I just had to box and wrap it up pretty for her. She really is such an awesome teacher at school and I do also like to go the extra mile for all my customers. I like to think it makes them feel they are getting that little something extra that they WON'T get at any supermarket or a bakery.<br />
